Women in Jazz at Laxness Museum
09/06 2024Our second living-room concert of the summer is fast approaching! Next Sunday the house will be filled with touching ballads and soulful Latin jazz performed by Sunna Gunnlaug and Marín Ósk - June 9th at 4pm.
Experience Sunna Gunnlaug's unique new compositions to the poetry of Jón from Vör.
Sunna Gunnlaugs is a well-known jazz pianist and composer who has been at the forefront of Icelandic jazz for decades. She has performed around the world, released 12 critically acclaimed CDs and won numerous awards. Sunna has composed music for Stórsveit Reykjavíkur (The Reykjavik Big Band), TV shows, films and various musical projects. She has twice received the title of Performer of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards and was Kópavog's Artist of the Year 2021. Sunna has put a lot of emphasis on making women in jazz visible and has organized many concerts and festivals, including the international festival Freyjufest which took place in Harpa in January She is the Vice President of the Europe Jazz Network.
With her is the singer/songwriter Marína Ósk. Marína has a master's degree in Jazz Performance from the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and a BA in jazz singing from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She has released two solo albums to great reviews and is currently working on her third and fourth albums. She won the 2023 Icelandic Music Award for Composition of the Year in the jazz category and has performed at major festivals and concert venues in Europe. Marína also teaches singing part-time at the Iceland Academy of the Arts and the FÍH Conservatory of Music.
